Just across the railway from the Reso was the first of two funfairs in Rhyl. This was the Marine Lake, which was a lake full of sea water and occasional plagues of jellyfish. Around the lake, from the early 1920s, ran a series of miniature steam engines. A one mile ride on the steam trains, named Michael, John, Joan and Billy, was a highlight of our Easter Monday family visit to the fairs.
I was devastated when the line was abandoned in the late sixties, but delighted when some local enthusiasts relayed in in the 1980s. The line is still in operation today and well worth a visit:
