Rhyl played a significant role in early aviation with flying pioneer Vivian Hewitt giving pleasure flights from the beach in the 1920s. My late auntie remembers watching them as a little girl. Few could afford to fly, but the aeroplane drew huge crowds of spectators. Click the link to see the film:
